Borrow Culture from Culture.
Master project - 2
The concept of bringing other
cultures into my design
made me think of birds
making nests, where they
collect resources from nature
and assemble them into
something new,
something protective, and
something to carry on to
the next generation, which is the core of my narrative, I want to carry Ghanaian culture into future with my interpretation.
In this project, we collaborated with students from Ghana, exchanging ideas on cultural differences, and trying to appropriately borrow some parts of the Ghanaian culture into designs.

FABRIC CHOICE
& MANIPULATIONS- Texture/Pattern
- Experiments on pattern variation (click to play)
-The manipulations started from taking shapes from bird nests, then analyse the interaction between the shapes and Ghanaian people during festival events (where they are in their safest state by celebrating their identity). Followed by deconstructing the shapes or combining multiplied units, it then develops the concept into patterns of tops, trousers, and skirts.
1. COTTON 2. BARK CLOTH
3. RAFFIA 4. WOOL FELT
- Inspired by the softness and comfort in regards to "home" and "protection".
- Samples of the pattern arrangements with Ghanaian language for the felt textile. They are all inspired by natural resources like trees and streams, colours are extracted from their traditional textiles.
